This is one of my most important articles and one of the most valuable. On the one hand, I want to help you raise awareness about caring for our pets. On the other hand, it is also a proposal for us to work as a team for the welfare of our animals. Through alternative medicine we can achieve optimal health not only in our pets, but also in ourselves.
The desire to feel good, to feed ourselves properly, to lead a healthy lifestyle starts by making a decision. We have to feel that we need a change and decide to do it in a way that reflects not only on our body and mind, but also on our way of life.
In this sense, alternative medicine applies to us and our pets. In the case of the animals you care for, it is essential that you are aware that you are the main responsible for their health. They put their lives in your hands and you certainly don’t want to let them down.
Alternative medicine
Alternative medicine goes far beyond the medication provided to get rid of certain symptoms. Let us not forget that the symptom is a manifestation that something is not quite right in the body. In this case, conventional or Western medicine, focusing on acute conditions and trying to calm them, does not successfully deal with chronic ailments but rather masks symptoms.
On the other hand, alternative medicine aims to address the causes of the particular symptom or disease. The course of the illness is altered, the symptom no longer needs to express itself, and therefore disappears. Moreover, as it is natural medicine, there are no side effects like those present in drugs of conventional medicine.
In the case of animals, the same is true. The owner of the pet must know its body in depth. Look at them, analyze them, be aware of any changes that may occur in order to act quickly. Ears, teeth, fur, skin, genitals, paws, etc.; any part of the body can show symptoms if something is not right.
Vets and owners: a team effort
If you know your pet well, our work as veterinarians will be much faster and more effective. The speed with which we attend to your pet can be crucial to its health. If you provide accurate information about how your pet behaves or what changes you have observed, you will be giving us more tools to make the diagnosis.
As an owner, the first thing you should consider is what you feed your pets. Ideally, the food should be natural, made with reliable ingredients and of known origin. Don’t be fooled by the attractive labels of ultra-processed pet food.
Then, in case you want to buy a pedigree dog or cat from a breeder, I suggest you look for information about the practices of that place. A few years ago, there was an epidemic of illness and disease in some dog breeds due to the irresponsibility and greed of many breeders. I always recommend rescuing dogs or cats; they need your help. There are many carnivores in this world, so there is no need to create more voluntarily.
In case your dog or cat is not destined to procreate, I recommend and suggest sterilization. At present, there are approximately 230,000,000 cats and 500,000,000 dogs in the world. I deliberately kept the zeros so that you are intimidated by these huge numbers. For our part, more and more of us professionals are venturing into alternative medicine to treat our patients. Through various practices and disciplines we are achieving excellent results that are reflected in the health of our beloved animals.
We also understand that each animal is unique and that what works for some may not work for others. However, we try to strike a balance between alternative and traditional medicine to get the best out of each.
Final conclusions
In order for us to work as a team, veterinarians and owners, it is essential that you are conscious of your pets’ care. Being the closest person to them, as soon as you observe changes you should attend a consultation. In this sense, I recommend that you keep a record of their changes, whether you have changed their diet, habits, lifestyle, etc.
I invite you to be responsible, both veterinarians and owners, so that the care of our pets is in the best hands. I encourage you to walk together the path of Integrative medicine.
